SEARCHING OUR WEB SITE

Did you know that you can actually search windsorlockslibrary.org using Findberry, our new site search engine?  If you are wondering about links to book reviews, clubs, cats, genealogy, or if "death" or "taxes" are ever mentioned on our site, just type a keyword into the Findberry search box at the bottom of our home page and find out!  Findberry doesn't search our PROGRAMS page because it is run by an external service, but you can find whatever you need on every other page on our site.  Check it out!

LATE OPENINGS DUE TO STAFF TRAINING

Please mark your calendars!

We will soon be in the process of migrating to a new integrated library system, which will debut in early June. At that time our public catalog will switch over to a new and exciting interface called Encore.  Before then, though, our staff will need to be thoroughly trained on the new system so we can provide you with our usual good service.  To that end, we will be opening late, at 1:00 PM, on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 12.  If you plan to use the library either of these days, please keep our shortened hours in mind.  The doors will open promptly at 1:00 PM and we will close at our usual time, 5:00 PM.

We hope that you will forgive us for any inconvenience that this change might cause.  Call us at 860-627-1495 if you have any questions.  We will keep you up-to-date on any other events related to this migration.  Thank you for your patience.

STORY TIMES CARRY ON

Just a reminder that, despite the fact that we currently have no Youth Librarian, story times are still being held on Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings.  Visit our programs page at http://www.eventkeeper.com/code/events.cfm?curOrg=WLOCKS for all the details.  Our thanks to volunteer Ms. Alyssa, who is doing a great job of filling in as our story time coordinator while we search for a replacement for Ms. Kristin.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT TODAY'S WEATHER - REASSURANCE FROM AN EXPERT

Meteorologist Art Horn has assured me that it will be "too warm aloft to produce snow in Windsor Locks" this evening, so don't hesitate to venture out to the library to enjoy Art's presentation of "Weather through the Ages, a fascinating history lesson on how our atmosphere formed and evolved through billions of years and how weather has impacted major events in world history.  I'd say that this program is worth the possibility of braving a few raindrops!  We still have seats left, so call 860-627-1495 to register, or stop in if you have a last-minute change of plans.  You are welcome to attend!  See you then!

WEATHER THROUGH THE AGES WITH METEOROLOGIST ART HORN

Tired of weather yet? We hope not! Meteorologist Art Horn will be back on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:30 PM with a new program, WEATHER THROUGH THE AGES, a history lesson on how our atmosphere was formed and how the weather has impacted some of the great moments in history. Wouldn't it be nice for a change to focus on weather events that don't require us to shovel snow or wear sub-zero gear? Call us at 860-627-1495 to register. Space will be limited, so register early if you can! Walk-ins will be welcomed on the night of the program if seats are available.

FAREWELL, MS. KRISTIN!

Our Children's Librarian, Kristin Raiche, has moved on to a new job at the Enfield Public Library.  We are so proud of her and wish her the best in her new position.  Our loss is definitely Enfield's gain, but don't worry....we hope to have a new children's librarian in place soon!  The ad will be posted to our web site and all of the library job sites in a few days.  In the meantime, our pre-school and children's story times will continue on Monday mornings and Wednesday evening with the help of staff and volunteers, so please continue to attend.

PRESIDENTS' DAY

Although we will be closed on Presidents' Day (Monday, 2/17), the library's History group will be meeting in the community room at 6:30 PM for their annual SHOW & TELL program.  Please bring any local historical artifacts (pictures, autographs, memorabilia, antiques, archaeological finds, or other local history-related items to share.  Observers are also welcome.  Please use the community room door to the right of the library's main entrance.  Call 860-627-1495 for more information.

ANOTHER STORM CLOSING

We have decided to close on Thursday, February 13 due to the predicted storm.  The safety of our staff and members is always foremost in our minds and driving is expected to be dangerous, so it appears prudent to remain closed until Friday.  All materials due on Thursday will be extended to Friday, so don't worry about returning things on Thursday.

In just 36 days it will be Spring!  :)

CLOSED TODAY

We will be closed today due to the storm.  Anything due today will be extended until tomorrow, so don't worry about braving the snow to return your movies that are due today.  You won't be fined if you return them tomorrow!  Stay warm!  We will reopen at 10 AM tomorrow as usual.

Are you looking for a short term, exciting, and festive volunteer opportunity?  We are looking for a  couple of good volunteers to serve coffee and snacks during our 2014 Winterfest Book Sale.  We usually offer refreshments from 10 AM until around noon time, or whenever the coffee runs out!  The only requirements are a steady hand and a smiling face.  Please call Adult Services Librarian Eileen Pearce at 860-627-1495 if you are interested in helping out or would like more information.  Thanks!
