OUR NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM

Our new computer system, which includes an exciting new online catalog, Encore, is finally in place.  Unfortunately, the glitches and changes that come along with installing any new computer application are still in high gear!  We want you to know how much we appreciate your patience as system problems are resolved at our central consortium office and our staff learns navigate this new system.  Some of the features that we enjoyed in our previous system are not working correctly yet, so please call us at 860-627-1495 or access your account to check due dates if you are not sure when your materials are due.

The following email and mail notices are still being set up and have not been sent out this week:

Courtesy (Almost Due) notices:  These are the email that remind you to return items.
Hold notices:  We will call you regardless, but email notices have not gone out so far.
Overdue notices:  Hopefully these will be produced soon, but in the meantime, check your due dates!

Encore has some great new features, including suggestions powered by Novelist, online articles related to your search, and advanced searching that includes choosing a library/department and format.  There is no need to check to see if Windsor Locks owns an item if you wish to place a hold because all holds are now consortium-wide.  You no longer need to wait for our copy to be returned!  If you designate Windsor Locks as your pick-up library the next available copy of the item will be sent to us and we will call you when it arrives.

If you plan to visit the library and want to find out if a particular book or DVD is here you can sort your search by location.

We will be publishing more tips, hints, and updates as time goes on.  Thank you for bearing with us!

SEARCHING OUR WEB SITE

Did you know that you can actually search windsorlockslibrary.org using Findberry, our new site search engine?  If you are wondering about links to book reviews, clubs, cats, genealogy, or if "death" or "taxes" are ever mentioned on our site, just type a keyword into the Findberry search box at the bottom of our home page and find out!  Findberry doesn't search our PROGRAMS page because it is run by an external service, but you can find whatever you need on every other page on our site.  Check it out!

LATE OPENINGS DUE TO STAFF TRAINING

Please mark your calendars!

We will soon be in the process of migrating to a new integrated library system, which will debut in early June. At that time our public catalog will switch over to a new and exciting interface called Encore.  Before then, though, our staff will need to be thoroughly trained on the new system so we can provide you with our usual good service.  To that end, we will be opening late, at 1:00 PM, on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 12.  If you plan to use the library either of these days, please keep our shortened hours in mind.  The doors will open promptly at 1:00 PM and we will close at our usual time, 5:00 PM.

We hope that you will forgive us for any inconvenience that this change might cause.  Call us at 860-627-1495 if you have any questions.  We will keep you up-to-date on any other events related to this migration.  Thank you for your patience.

STORY TIMES CARRY ON

Just a reminder that, despite the fact that we currently have no Youth Librarian, story times are still being held on Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings.  Visit our programs page at http://www.eventkeeper.com/code/events.cfm?curOrg=WLOCKS for all the details.  Our thanks to volunteer Ms. Alyssa, who is doing a great job of filling in as our story time coordinator while we search for a replacement for Ms. Kristin.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT TODAY'S WEATHER - REASSURANCE FROM AN EXPERT

Meteorologist Art Horn has assured me that it will be "too warm aloft to produce snow in Windsor Locks" this evening, so don't hesitate to venture out to the library to enjoy Art's presentation of "Weather through the Ages, a fascinating history lesson on how our atmosphere formed and evolved through billions of years and how weather has impacted major events in world history.  I'd say that this program is worth the possibility of braving a few raindrops!  We still have seats left, so call 860-627-1495 to register, or stop in if you have a last-minute change of plans.  You are welcome to attend!  See you then!
